Driving Around With Your Low Fuel Light On?
With today’s soaring gas prices, people may try to go as long as possible without filling up at the pump. Do you know how far your car can go once its low fuel light comes on? This website has information for most car models. http://tankonempty.com.
However, we want to remind you that it’s not safe to see how long you can go until you hit empty. It is recommended that drivers keep at least half a tank of gas in their car at all times. This can keep you out of dangerous situations which can occur if you run out of gas in an unfamiliar area. Also an emergency could arise where you need to leave your city immediately. We all remember what a disaster it was trying to fill up our tanks during the Hurricane Rita evacuation a few years ago.
Here are links to a few other websites that list the gas stations with the best prices in your area: www.gasbuddy.com, www.gaspricewatch.com, http://gasprices.mapquest.com.
Polygraph Testing - "well above chance, though well below perfection”
Polygraph testing is becoming increasingly popular in screening candidates for employment. However, these test results are not always accurate. In fact, polygraph tests are not admissible in courts of law because of their failure rate. This type of technology fails to detect those telling lies or implicates those telling the truth about 10% of the time.
Polygraphs are also being administered to many convicted felons who are now on parole or probation. Researchers say that although not always accurate, polygraphs can be useful. Often times just the threat of being administered a lie detector test helps keep these convicts on the right track.

Auto Theft in Texas
Auto theft is a huge problem in the State of Texas. It is estimated that a vehicle is stolen every five minutes in Texas. In 2006, one in every 210 vehicles registered with the State was stolen. Texas ranks number 2 in auto theft behind California.
The top five vehicles stolen in Texas during 2006 were:
- Ford Pickup
- Chevrolet Pickup
- Dodge Pickup
- Honda Accord
- Honda Civic
Here are a few tips to help keep your vehicle from being stolen:
- It may seem like a no-brainer but lock your car and take the keys with you. Make sure you close all windows and your sunroof when parking. Auto theft is a crime of opportunity and if you make it more difficult for the perpetrators they will most likely move on to their next target.
- Don’t leave your car with its motor running. This is an open invitation for thieves. On cold mornings many people leave their car running in the driveway to warm up and then find that it’s gone when they come back.
- Leave your car parked in first gear or in reverse if you have a manual transmission. Put your parking brake on if you have an automatic transmission.
- Park your car on a well-lighted and well-traveled street or parking area if at all possible.
- Don’t tempt thieves by leaving items of value out on car seats or the floorboards. Hide all of these items or take them with you if you can.
- Your car is safer in your driveway than being left on the street but it is the safest in a locked garage.
- Don’t keep your title or “pink slip” in your car. That should be locked up with your important documents at home.
- Don’t leave any info with your name, address, bank account info, or social security number in the vehicle.
- If parking on the street, turn your wheels sharply either towards or away from the curb and set the parking brake.
By following these tips, you can help keep yourself from becoming a victim of car theft.
