CALSAGA Helps California Stand Out Above the Rest

In a recent report from the Associated Press, private security officers were labeled as “legions of ill-trained, low-paid private security guards…protecting tempting terrorist targets across the U.S”. Several states, such as Alabama, Colorado, Kansas, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota and Kentucky are just some of the states contributing to this description. These states do not require FBI fingerprint checks, such as other states do; they permit the private security companies to regulate and police themselves.

California, however, does not attach itself to this problem. Executive Director of CALSAGA, Jeff Flint, stated, “California private security officers are the best-trained, most extensively background-checked, and most professional in the nation”. He continued, “In California, all contract private security officers are licensed by the state and must undergo a pre-employment background check against state criminal databases…Thanks to recent legislation that CALSAGA sponsored, California is the first state in the nation in which virtually all proprietary or in-house security officers must also receive these checks and be licensed by the state”.
